Educated at Eastman and Juilliard, the Colorado native first came to national prominence when she won the International Khachaturian Competition, and the Joy in Singing award which led to her New York recital debut in Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. Her widely varied operatic repertoire includes such roles as Salome, Aida, Madama Butterfly, Suor Angelica, the Marschallin, Rusalka, Donna Anna, the Countess and Fiordiligi; Mimi, Liu, Antonia, Rosalinda, Juliette, Pamina, La Calisto, and Renata in Prokofiev's Fiery Angel, which she learned on short notice for the San Francisco Opera.

Her debut at the New York City Opera was as the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro as it was for Hawaii Opera Theatre, and she has sung Pamina, Juliette, Rusalka and Musetta for Seattle Opera. Her European debut was as Musetta at l'Opéra de Nice. She sang her first performances in the title role of Richard Strauss' Salome in a concert tour of England with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra led by Andrew Litton. Miss Philibosian and Maestro Litton repeated the final scene from Salome the following season with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra on a subscription series concert, which included 'Isolde's Liebestod.' She prepared, once again, the title role of Salome for the Santa Fe Opera, and has sung Liu in Seoul, Korea.

Miss Philibosian is equally at home on recital and concert stages, spanning the repertoire from Lieder and chansons to the pinnacles of the Verdi and Brahms Requiems, Mahler's Second and Eighth Symphonies, Strauss' Four Last Songs, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Handel's Messiah, Mozart's Requiem and C Minor Mass, Bach's St. John Passion, and Mass in B Minor, Poulenc Gloria and La Dame de Monte Carlo. Miss Philibosian stunned audiences when with 24 hours' notice she sang Verdi's Requiem with conductor Yoel Levi and the Atlanta Symphony.

Other highlights include triumphs in Beethoven’s Ninth with the Seattle Symphony under the direction of Gerard Schwarz, and Strauss’ Four Last Songs with conductor Timothy Russell and the ASU Symphony Orchestra. After a critically acclaimed Verdi Requiem, Miss Philibosian collaborated with the Traverse Symphony Orchestra in a concert of opera arias, and joins the TSO again for their Christmas Concert this December. She will soon release a recording of works of Nicholas Medtner, in collaboration with acclaimed pianist and Medtner scholar, Albert Jordan.

Nicole Philibosian regularly appears in concert and masterclass on the University and Conservatory stages, including the Eastman School of Music, University of Michigan, Arizona State University, University of Richmond, DePauw University, and the University of Southern Colorado, and in private voice studios throughout the United States. She collaborates regularly with pianist Donna Brunsma, retired Assistant Conductor of the Lyric Opera of Chicago. An accomplished pianist, she and her husband, tenor Ron Gentry, taught at the Interlochen Arts Academy for twenty-one years, co-founded Chantez Productions International, a year-round performance and training program for students and teachers of singing in Traverse City, Michigan featuring the Singwell Academy, now in its tenth season. Ron and Nicole will star in Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors with the Gaylord Symphony this December; then at Boyne City Performing Arts Center this Valentine’s Day they will delight audiences again in a concert of love songs. Nicole collaborates regularly with Chamber Music North where she looks forward to singing Wagner’s Liebestod in June 2009.
